Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2026

In plain terms: this site never asks who you are. There is no form, no signup, and no advertising cookie anywhere on it. Your browser does reveal your IP address, which we use to name your general area in the text. Everything else happens after you click through to another company, under that company's policy rather than ours.

1. Who this covers

This is the privacy policy of Coverage Scientist and it applies to coveragescientist.com and nothing else. We wrote it ourselves and we are solely responsible for honoring it. It does not extend to any company you reach by clicking a link here; once you land on their site, their policy governs, and you should read it before typing anything into their forms.

2. What you give us directly

Nothing, unless you write to us. This site has no contact form, no quote form, no account, and no newsletter. We never ask for your name, address, phone number, date of birth, driver's licence, vehicle details, or any other personal detail. If you send us an email, we hold that message and use it for the sole purpose of answering you.

3. What gets recorded when you visit

  • Your general location. Pages here name your region or city in the copy. To do that, your browser asks a geolocation lookup service to translate your IP address into a rough area. That lookup reveals your IP address to the service, which handles it under its own terms. We do not keep the result; it is used to render the page and then it is gone.
  • Server logs. The infrastructure serving this site records ordinary request data such as IP address, browser and device type, the page you came from, and the time. We use it to keep the site up, secure, and to count traffic.
  • Outbound clicks. When you click through to a partner, we record that the click happened and any campaign tags carried in the web address, so we can be credited for the referral. This is measurement of the click itself, not a profile of you.

4. Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. There is no Google Analytics here, no advertising pixel, and no cross-site tracker embedded in these pages. Companies you click through to will set their own cookies once you arrive on their sites; that is outside our control and outside this policy. Your browser settings let you block or clear cookies at any time.

5. Why we handle any of it

  • To display the page, including wording matched to your general area.
  • To keep the site running, diagnose faults, and defend it against abuse.
  • To count visits and confirm which referrals we are owed for.
  • To meet legal obligations and to enforce our terms.

6. Who else sees it

We do not sell your personal information for money. We hold no customer list, no lead database, and no marketing file, because this site collects none of that. The limited data described above reaches only: the providers who host this site and measure our referral clicks, acting on our instructions; the partner receiving a referral, in the form of click and campaign data; and courts, regulators, or our advisers where the law requires it or where we must protect our rights.

Be clear about the boundary: anything you type in after you leave this site goes to that company, not to us. If you provide your details to a comparison service or an insurer, they may share those details with insurers, agents, and marketing partners under their own policy, and we neither receive that information nor control what happens to it.

7. How long we keep it

Server logs are held briefly, for as long as our security and troubleshooting needs require, then discarded on our hosting provider's ordinary cycle. Email you send us is kept only as long as it takes to deal with your question.

8. Keeping it safe

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and we apply sensible safeguards to the little data we touch. No system on the internet is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security.

9. Children

This site is meant for adults shopping for auto insurance and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.

10. California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you and how it is used and disclosed; to obtain a copy of it; to have it corrected if it is wrong; to have it deleted; to opt out of its sale or of sharing it for cross-context behavioral advertising; and to be treated no differently for exercising any of these rights.

The only categories this site handles are internet and network activity — IP address, browser and request data — and the coarse location derived from your IP address, both described in sections 3 and 4. We do not sell this information. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not process sensitive personal information at all.

11. Your privacy choices

To the extent that passing click and campaign data to a referral partner counts as "sharing" under California law, you may opt out, and you may exercise any of the rights above, by emailing privacy@coveragescientist.com with the word PRIVACY in the subject line. Tell us what you want and enough detail for us to locate the relevant records. We will verify your request against the information you provide, answer within the timeframes the law sets, and confirm when it is done. There is no charge. An authorized agent may act for you with written proof of authorization.

We deliberately do not route these requests through a third party. They come to us, and we answer them.

12. Rights outside California

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws hold comparable rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. Use the same address in section 11 and we will handle your request the same way.

13. Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be evident on this page rather than announced elsewhere.

14. Reaching us
